Port des Torrent, the locality which gives its name to the club, is a magnificent part of the island, as much for dominating a small, beautiful bay of its own, as for being only ten minutes from the bay of the Puerto de San Antonio. Out of season its easy to get a cheap flight to Barcelona, Madrid or Palma then use Iberia, Air Europe, Spanair or Air Berlin to connect to Ibiza. Sailing, diving and windsurfing are popular watersports. There is much historic interest including the medieval walled city of Ibiza town, which is bustling in high summer and peaceful and relaxing at all other times of year. Ibiza is a very beautiful island with spectacular coastal scenery with lovely secluded sandy coves. There are restaurants, bars and a supermarket within a few minutes walk. It is situated on the south western side of San Antonio Bay in Port des Torrent.

The Torrent Bay Club has many prepared activities, particularly for children, with a play area and children's entertainment programme. The large on site swimming pool has games in high summer including aqua volley ball, waterpolo and aqua aerobics. It's fairly clear to the audience who is pulling the strings and thereafter it's all just a procedural effort made watchable only by the charisma that is on the screen in spades. Indeed, one has to wonder what Paul Newman saw in it when he accepted the part. Their efforts are flat - not helped by an unremarkable screenplay and a plot that offers us nothing at all new. The cast are on screen, but they - especially Hackman - don't really seem to care. When a young girl is kidnapped, he is asked to deliver the ransom money - but as ever, no good deed goes unpunished, and soon he is embroiled in a twenty year old cold case involving her former husband that becomes distinctly perilous! James Garner appears and somehow that just put me in mind of one of the episodes from the "Rockford Files" upon which this could easily have been based. Retired cop "Ross" (Paul Newman) lives with the wealthy, but terminally ill, actor "Ames" (Gene Hackman) and his wife "Catherine" (Susan Sarandon).
